Consuming Kids part 1 of 7
Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children’s advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world. Consuming Kids pushes back against the wholesale commercialization of childhood, raising urgent questions about the ethics of children’s marketing and its impact on the health and well-being of kids. hahahha
It’s so absurd that advertising companies have the power to actualy regulate what the FTC has athority over. But I guess if you bribe enough congressmen under the guise of lobbying you can do anything.
OH, I thought this was a tutorial on cooking children..
Does anybody know any links to videos on ACTUALLY consuming kids?? thanks
Indeed it is. I think I’ve seen millions of documentaries, and I can also recommend “The Great Global Warming Swindle”, “9/11: Blueprint for Truth”, “Zero: An Investigation into 9/11″, “Fall of the Republic”, and many others.
@camreeno360 which is such a great documentary..
I did watch the rest. And yes, I realize it goes into much more depth now…
Speaking of documentaries you should also check out “America: Freedom to Fascism”…
That would be an inaccurate assessment. While the first part of this documentary does touch on some of the same issues in a broad manner, it is more of a means to establish precedent for the rest of the information. I would suggest that you watch the other 6 parts and then share your opinion. To the poster of the documentary, thanks for the upload!
Even Sesame Street has been dumbed down and commercialized, 0Krusnik0.
How sad is that?
This goes over a lot of the same stuff as The Corporation.
Sad BUT true!!!
I have a 7 month old baby and I can see what taking place. I hope a lot of parents see this and do some thing about it. thank you for the heads up.
this is fabulous! how do we get it out in the open more?
I dunno, the numbers quoted don’t seem too disproportionate to me, especially when you take into account that most of it is by the wealthy.
capitalism kills man
they need to show this documentary in PTA meetings so parents and teachers are more aware of this. If more and more people start realizing the problem, then we’ll see change. Sad how the world is right? people risk their morals just for money.
It’s rare when my kids watch TV – usually Saturday mornings – since it’s banned during the school week. When they do, the standing order is that the Mute button is pressed when a commercial comes on. It started? when the decibel level got super high, and I wanted it turned down. Then I convinced the kids that it’d be more interesting to watch the commercial, muted, and see if they could figure out what was being sold and why. Made a lot of food/toy commercials look really ridiculous.
My TV is going off and my kids will be watching cartoons by DVD minus ads (including those in the cartoons!).
this is terrible i never knew when i was a kid i was such a fag when i was 5 i would always nag at age 10 i stopped nagging my god i controlled the economy kinda when i was a kid
Thanks, Jews!
Here are two simple alternatives: Parents can turn off the TV and Public TV has some excellent children’s shows.
I have a little sister who freaks out whenever she sees an advertisement for a toy she wants on t.v. It drives me crazy! I try not to watch too much television anymore. I’ve noticed that the volume increases everytime there’s a comercial break. Sometimes I just want to rip that idiot box from the wall and send it down a three story building.
The issue is not marketing. Marketing is merely a byproduct of our trading systems. The illusion of scarcity, poorly built products designed purposely not to last, even money itself, printed upon a meaningless slip of paper, given to many by a few who will benefit off its global grasp. The world is in debt. But ask yourself to what? The solution, is a world without money. A world where our technology replaces the need to enslave the globe. We are ready. Will you help?
and they dont want to disconnect.
part 7 of the doc speaks about that, how can parents help with ads in schools and on the streets?
Excellent documentary. We’ve been brainwashed by advertising for decades, and many of us aren’t even aware of it. Asleep in the Matrix.
